Weird
On the left, open field; on the right, open field; between them, a line of nettles corresponding exactly to the route of a public footpath across the field.
Weirdly, as far as my limited understanding of public rights of way goes, this isn't actually illegal. Essex County Council is responsible for keeping public footpaths clear, and there are nearly 4,000 miles of them in the county. They don't have the resources to be able to do that.
Maybe you have to tell ECC that you intend to use a public footpath a few weeks in advance of your trek, so they can clear it ready for you.
