Collection

Anecdote

I may have a large collection of playing cards, but it's as nothing compared to my grandfather's collection of matchbox labels. I inherited 20,000 of them (as I was the only person who ever expressed an interest in them), and have them sitting in my attic where I look at them every 5 or 10 years.

I took about 5,000 of them down to look at yesterday because my younger daughter decided she wanted to frame one of the sets. We have two framed sets on our walls, but my daughter wanted one of her own. The Japanese sets were the most eye-catching: here are a couple of examples:

Eventually, my daughter went with this set:

A good choice, I think. It would probably sell for something like £1.50 on eBay.

Now to spend £20 getting it framed (sigh).
