Powerless

Anecdote

For the past two weeks or so, we've been getting very noticeable power fluctuations. The lights flicker, the Internet goes flaky and the uninterruptible power supply for my computer kicks in. This is undoubtedly caused by the bad weather, as the power line to the house comes in aerially rather than underground.

This morning, for the first time, not only did the power fluctuate, it actually cut out. I had to go to the fuse box and switch it off then switch it back on again a couple of times to get it back. If it had happened four minutes earlier, my wife's alarm clock wouldn't have gone off and we'd have overslept.

Damn! Why couldn't it have gone off four minutes earlier?
