Arise, a Rise

Outburst

I see that Michael Parkinson is being knighted in the New Years Honours list.

Why's that then?

OK, so he's retiring as a chat show host, and he interviewed in depth a lot of famous people in his earlier career before chat shows became public relations vehicles, but why should that qualify him for a knighthood? He was just doing his job. I've nothing against the man, but really, what criteria are used to decide that he should become Sir Michael? That it'll be popular with the public?

Hmm, I guess that must be it.
