If the Democrats in the United States had any spine to them, they'd say right now that in the event of a military takeover of Greenland then the moment they got back into power they would return it to Denmark and pay reparations.
That's the thing about conditionals, though: if the antecedent doesn't hold, the consequent is left to fend for itself.
