Specification

Anecdote

When Roy Trubshaw rewrote MUD version 2 as MUD version 3 (now known as MUD1), he didn't just sit down and program it: he specified what he was going to program first.

Recently, he came across the part of this specification that relates to the MUD1 database format. He sent me a copy as a .pdf, which I've uploaded here: http://mud.co.uk/richard/mud1spec.pdf.

At 20 megabytes in length, the .pdf contains over 60 times the number of bits that MUD1 itself did.
