Anecdote
I was driving home yesterday in the dark at rush hour and found myself behind a car pulling a trailer. The signalling lights on the trailer were the inverse of those on the car. If the car signalled left, the trailer signalled right; the car would then turn left.
It was bad enough anyway, but it happened as I approached this roundabout from the southeast: https://www.google.com/maps/@51.8844004,0.9327175,18z.
I caught on to what the problem was immediately, but I can imagine it could have caused a thrilling journey home if I'd been less awake.
