Anecdote
The results of the Research Excellence Framework for UK universities have now been result, and the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering at Essex University ranked 6th for research power in Computer Science. This is impressive, and should lead to an increase in research funding.
As I'm not on a research contract, none of my own work featured in this, however I'm happy to bathe in reflected glory (especially when I don't have to fill out grant applications to get unreflected glory).
