Santander

Anecdote

We spent today wandering around Santander. It doesn't have much of an old town to it, but the view from the waterfront is very agreeable and you have to walk some distance to find run-down areas. It's full of banks, not all Santander,

My wife noticed there was a funicular railway, and wanted to use it so we'd get a panoramic view from the top. We followed the map and eventually found the funicular railway — at the top. They ought to mark both ends of funiculars on maps. I thought the climb to find the funicular was a bit long. The funicular wasn't working, anyway, so we walked back down using a staircase 221 steps long.

I thought that had tired me out, but that was before we walked another 10km and I recalibrated what "tired out" meant.

Quote of the day, from my wife: "Ooh, this is a very upmarket ... market"".
