Weird
While perusing the April 1869 edition of the Gentleman's Magazine, I came across this mention of Colchester:
It seems that Colchester only became "Britain's oldest recorded town" after it saw off a challenge from Maldon for being what the Romans called "Camulodunum".
Elseewhere in the same issue is a discussion as to whether photoluminescence is a chemical or mechanical process. Riveting stuff.
