Commune

Anecdote

I bought this commemorative medal a while back off eBay:

I was planning to use it for the cover of my Lizzie Lott book #3, when I eventually get around to writing it. Unfortunately, it's actually too early for my purpose — it was struck to commemorate the forced conscription (levée en masse) of young men by the Government of National Unity during the siege of Paris by the Prussians in the 1870 Franco-Prussian War. This is five months before the date I wanted, but I didn't see the date when I bought it, just the reference to the Commune. It was, apparently, a different Commune to the one I was expecting.

Oh well, caveat emptor. I'll put it back on eBay once I get round to it.
