Anecdote
I put a shirt on this morning and in the process of doing so a button came off. This is about the fourth shirt that's happened to recently, so I figured I'd better start sewing a few back on. Otherwise, people might think I was overweight or something. While I was doing so, however, another three buttons came off the same shirt from which one had fallen off earlier.
So ... button cotton has an expiry date?
It's either that or some kind of button-cotton-eating chemical is present in the washing machine liquid I bought a couple of weeks ago.
