Anecdote

I discovered today that the Computer Science scheme is switching to teaching Python as its first-year introductory programming language.

I discovered it because at a meeting about teaching it was pointed out that the decision had been made without any discussion among the rest of the department — it was handed down by a committee.

Hmm. Not only was it handed down by a few select individuals, it was handed down to a few select individuals. I had no idea that it was happening.

The management style of the old Labour government seems to be alive and well in Essex University's School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (the name of which was also handed down by a few select individuals).
