Miscellaneous
Yesterday was my last lecture ever. I must have given over a thousand of them over the years.
Because no-one could stop me, I thought I'd commemorate the occasion by dressing up in my PhD gown for this one.
The students did actually notice, which was a plus. Some even took discreet photos, but I don't really care now if they tease me on social media.
I had to give the lecture from a different laptop, having mislaid the charger for the one I usually use and not noticing for the four weeks of the Easter break. I had enough in the battery to last for the revision lecture I gave last week, but not enough for this one. That's a fine metaphor for my academic career.
Hmm, maybe I should have combed my hair after I took my hat off, it's sticking up somewhat.
I expect that the next time I wear my gown will be in my coffin. That way, my wife won't have to wonder how to get rid of it.
It's my last day of employment today. If you email me at my Essex University address tomorrow, expect it to bounce.
