Hanafuda

Anecdote

Yay, swag!

One of my now-former students dropped in to see me today about the game he wrote as his final-year project, which he's planning on converting to Android then releasing. Just before he left, he gave me these (which, as he's now left university, I'm allowed to accept):

They're Hanafuda ("flower cards") playing cards from Japan. I'm going to have to look them up to find out what order they go in, as they spilled out all over my desk and onto the floor when I opened them up. I've wanted a set of these for ages, so am really pleased!

Thus successfully concludes my long-game plan of taking on a very clever student guaranteed to get a first class degree who is also going to spend his first two years following graduation teaching English in Japan...
