Over breakfast, I usually read academic papers or books. For the past few weeks, I've been re-reading Salen & Zimmerman's Rules of Play, which I bought when it came out. It's over a decade old now, but apart from references to games that are no longer current, it's still very relevant. This is a book that was built to last, and it remains on my Game Design recommended reading list. As a work that covers the whole field, I don't think it's yet been surpassed.
No, this isn't a review, it's just a recommendation from a fan.
