The Singing Dad

Anecdote

Once, my dad came down to breakfast singing an old song, "It's my mother's birthday today". This is so obscure that other than when I looked it up just now it's the only time I've ever heard it.

Actually, I only got to hear one line of it the first time. After singing, "It's my mother's birthday today", my dad suddenly stopped, announced "Blimey — it is!" and seconds later was on the phone to Interflora.

Bzzt! Subsconsciousness to consciousness: emergency! Bzzt! Bzzt!

What made me remember this anecdote today? Ah, well, see, it's my mother's birthday today.
