I received an email just now to contribute to a special issue of a journal. The editor is hand-picking 8-10 people to submit abstracts prior to a formal call for publication. I'm one of those hand-picked people. Sounds nifty, doesn't it?
Yes, except the deadline for the abstract is June 10th. This is suspiciously close — so suspiciously close that it suggests I'm actually one of the back-up names on the list, the original 8-10 people not having greeted the proposal with 100% enthusiasm.
Still, it's a journal, and I do actually have something to say on their proposed topic.
