Weird

So I was in a Zoom meeting with a group of students. Some students were showing a regular video, some were using a background and some were just using a static image.

One of the students using a background described her work, and we moved on to another student. I don't quite know what happened next, but I think a young man (my guess is it was her boyfriend) must have entered the room, picked up the Zoom focus by accident, then sat down next to her. Whatever, the Zoom filter decided to edit her into the background and show the boyfriend instead. For the next quarter of an hour, we got to watch the boyfriend playing games on his phone.

The student didn't seem to notice, and participated verbally as if we could see her rather than the boyfriend. No-one commented on it in the meeting, although I suspect she was sent a private message by one of the other students because she did eventually get the boyfriend to move, whereupon Zoom picked up her outline again.

I'm sure this is a metaphor for something.
