Cause and Effect

Anecdote

Recently, we had to interview those of our first-year tutees who had decided that they had better things to do with their time than attend lectures. The first-year examination results from January are now out, and we have to interview any of our students who failed at least one module. Entirely unexpectedly, the former are a subset of the latter.

As a department, this means we're having 200 interviews, 100 of which are with people who we interviewed two weeks ago.

This line from the email informing us of this perhaps hints at the motivation for this: "always complete an Outcome Letter even if you're not sure as keeping our records accurate is of paramount importance".

Basically, we're meeting the students so it can be recorded that we've met the students.
