Anecdote

We went shopping today to get me some stuff for my birthday later next week.

One of the good things about having a birthday in January is that the sales are on and everything is half price. However, this is more than compensated by the fact that the only stuff on sale is the rubbish that people didn't want to buy as Christmas presents. As a result, I could get as many "slim fit" or "tailored fit" shirts as I wanted, but really struggled to find any that were "podgy fit" (the formal name for which is "classic fit"). As for casual jackets, it's as if there's a law that forbids selling them at this time of year (and insists that dressing gowns are sold instead).

We had no luck buying cufflink holders, either. It turns out that every Jeweller's in Colchester only sells one cufflink holder and it comes with a watch holder, like it or not. I have no need for a special holder in which to store my many watches, I just want a cufflink holder. Fortunately, the Internet does sell such things.

There was a woman in Sainsbury's this morning who put the end of her shop & go laser scanner in her mouth. Maybe she was trying to scan her palette or something. That has nothing to do with the birthday shopping, but I thought I'd mention it.
