I haven't bought any maps of Europe from 1869 for a while as they don't seem to appear on eBay very often. I guess I must have bought them all (except for the one of Russia that has been put there every few months for five years). This one did show up recently, so I put in a low bid for it:
The bid was low on account of how the person who hand-coloured it back in the day clearly didn't have their heart in it.
Reading the text on the back, though, I was once again reminded of how different the world was back in 1869 compared with how it is today. Can you imagine seeing this in a textbook today?
