I bought a collection of volumes of the Gentleman's Magazine from (when else?) 1869 recently. One pair of pages hasn't been cut properly and you can't open them to read the text inside; the fact that in 142 years no-one has ever felt it necessary to take a paperknife to them and separate it perhaps gives some indication of how interesting the articles are...
The most striking thing from my point of view is the ingrained assumptions as to its readership. Here's the start of the article that follows the two stuck-together pages:
