Deflated

Anecdote

Before the Germany/Spain match today, some of the speakers at the conference were given a ball each upon which to write their predicted result. I went with 1-1 after extra time, Germany to win 4-3 on penalties.

I was almost right, too — I could well have been if Spain had got their goal earlier in the second half. Oh well.

There are large groups of Germans wandering the streets following their defeat, chanting football songs, honking car horns, blowing vuvuselas (well, at least blowing one of them). It seems the culture here is to be more expressive when the story ends than when it's ongoing.

Now 'I have to try and deflate my football so I can fit it in my suitcase and bring it home.
